academy FAQ | U7-U10
Does my player have to play recreational soccer to play in academy?
Coppell FC academy players are required to register and play U7 recreational soccer and also the fall U8 recreational season in addition to academy. By playing both rec & academy, players have an opportunity to develop and try out the skills that they are learning in academy in a less competitive environment that will build their confidence and allow them to explore the game of soccer. We also want them to grow the passion for soccer, let them explore, fail and succeed in addition to challenging them. At U8 (spring season), U9 and U10, a player can choose if they want to play academy soccer only.
how many times a week does academy TRAIN?
Our U7 and U8 teams train one evening per week as a team. We also offer supplemental skills programs on Tuesday & Friday nights that are optional to further work on their technical skills. Our U9 and U10 teams train twice per week as a team.
how do I tryout for academy?
We offer open training sessions to tryout for our Coppell FC academy teams two times per year in November and May. Please see our Academy page to register for any upcoming tryout dates.
how do i know if my PLAYER should tryout for academy?
If your player is excelling in recreational soccer and you find that they are not being challenged enough, Coppell FC’s academy program will offer them a more competitive environment to train & play. We have professional coaching staff that are ready to train players who show passion and are developmentally ready for a higher level of play. Academy soccer is not for all players. We must let the players develop at their own pace. For more information on Coppell Youth Soccer Association and to register for recreational soccer please click here.
when are academy games?
The academy league games at U7 & U8 are on Sundays. CYSA recreational league games are on Saturdays - thus no conflicts. At U9 & U10 our coaches may elect to play in two leagues (one Saturday and one Sunday) or just play on Saturdays. This is at the discretion of the coach & the leagues available to the team.
